The Community Health & Innovative Policy (CHIP) Laboratory, [https://ddpayan.publichealth.uci.edu/] led by Dr. Denise Payán in the Department of Health, Society and Behavior in the Program in Public Health at the University of California, Irvine, is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Scholar to contribute to a tobacco policy implementation research study. The postdoctoral scholar position is a full-time, 12-month position with the possibility of extension conditional on satisfactory performance.

Background: Dr. Payán is leading a three-year, mixed methods tobacco policy implementation research study in Orange County and the San Joaquin Valley, California. The postdoctoral scholar will work closely with Dr. Payán to develop data collection instruments, collect primary and secondary data, supervise undergraduate research assistants, assist with data management and analyses, serve as the liaison to local community partner(s), and contribute to dissemination efforts and manuscript development. This project is funded by the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program [https://www.trdrp.org/index.html] and will be carried out in partnership with researchers at UC Merced.

The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) work independently with guidance from the principal investigator and collaborators; to, (2) develop and implement research plans; (3) contribute to tobacco policy research data collection; (4) assist with data analyses of quantitative or mixed methods projects; and, (5) advance dissemination of study findings for academic and policy audiences. Funds will be available for travel to 1-2 conferences and professional development activities.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidate should have a Ph.D. in Health Policy, Public Health, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, or other related social, behavioral, or population science field are invited to apply. We are specifically seeking applications for candidates with a high level of interest in state and local tobacco policy research and strong mixed methods or quantitative analysis skills.

Required Qualifications:
-Ph.D. in Health Policy, Public Health, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, or other related social, behavioral, or population science field.
-Interest in state and/or local tobacco policy.
-Strong methodological and data analysis skills (quantitative or mixed methods).
-Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent and collaborative scientific research.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Demonstrated evidence of strong contributions to scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications.
-Training and/or experience with survey design
-Experience conducting or collaborating on health policy and/or tobacco or nicotine studies or in the implementation science field.
-Fluency in Spanish.
-Willingness to mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants.
