Position description
The Department of Spanish & Portuguese invites applications for part-time lecturer positions to teach lower division Spanish language courses, which can include Beginning Spanish, Intermediate Spanish, and Advanced Spanish writing courses at UC Irvine, during the winter and spring quarters of the 2024-2025 academic year. Lower-division Spanish language courses are delivered in a hybrid format that includes face-to-face and asynchronous days, following primarily task-based language teaching and communicative language teaching principles. The full-time teaching load in the School of Humanities is eight courses per year; the annual full-time salary is $68,247. The salary per course is $8,530.88.
This position is in a bargaining unit represented by a union, the UC-AFT. As such, the terms and conditions of the appointment are contained in UC/UC-AFT collective bargaining agreement, which is available at https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/labor/bargaining-units/ix/index.html
Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.A. in Spanish, applied linguistics, or related area in hand by October 11, 2024, to be eligible for employment. The successful candidate will have experience teaching Spanish language and knowledge in one or more of these areas: second language learning and pedagogy, heritage language pedagogy, task-based language teaching, technology-mediated language learning. Applicants should have native or near-native language competence in Spanish and English.
Appointments vary based on need and availability. The service period for the academic year, two quarters:
Winter 2025

Service Dates: 03/26/25 to 06/13/25
Pay Period: 04/01/25 to 06/30/25
