The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position beginning September 1, 2014.
The fellowship emphasizes research training in extreme value analysis and coastal flood risk assessment. The prospective scholar will contribute to the NSF-funded FloodRISE (http://floodrise.uci.edu/) project that aims to promote resilience to coastal flooding in Southern California.
This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Earth System Science or a closely related field, and expertise in data processing, and computer programing. The candidate should demonstrate strong quantitative skills, solid background in statistical hydrology/climatology, as well as good written and oral communication skills. Prior research experience in extreme value analysis, hydrologic modeling and/or coastal engineering would be an advantage. The candidate will be responsible for writing reports, research papers, and grant proposals. The prospective scholar will work with Professor Amir AghaKouchak (http://amir.eng.uci.edu/), Professor Brett Sanders (http://sanders.eng.uci.edu/) and other FloodRISE investigators.
Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and availability of adequate funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
