Position description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for two postdoctoral research associate positions in theoretical condensed matter physics, with flexible start dates, ranging from January 2015 through September 2015. The successful candidate will work in the group of Prof. Steven R. White.

The research focus will have overlap with condensed matter theory, quantum information, and quantum chemistry. Postdocs will have the opportunity to work in several areas, ranging from the application of DMRG and tensor network methods to frustrated spin systems, models for high temperature superconductors, and other strongly correlated systems, to the application of DMRG to continuum 1D systems used as benchmarks for density functional theory methods (in collaboration with Prof. Kieron Burke). Successful candidates should have substantial experience in computational methods for quantum systems, especially in DMRG or other tensor network methods. Postdocs with strong programming skills will be encouraged to help develop and support the ITensor software library, and a long-term highly paid position which is partly software development and partly research may be available.

We anticipate that the positions will be offered for two years, subject to satisfactory performance during the first year; with additional years possible, contingent on funding. Interested candidates should apply online at UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF02678
