Position description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position beginning Fall 2015. The postdoctoral scholar will work with Prof. Asantha Cooray on observational probes of reionization, such as the infrared background, 21-cm intensity fluctuations, and new probes involving molecular and atomic lines such as CO, CII and Lyman-alpha. Experience with the analysis of any large-scale structure data is desired or at least some knowledge of the experimental techniques and power spectrum and other clustering measurements with data. Experiences with CosmoMC, CAMB, halo modeling, weak lensing and galaxy clustering calculations will also be helpful for this position. In your cover letter please explain how your research background, publications, and experiences overlap in the intersection between theory and observational cosmology.

Experience with leading or initiating an independent research program and proposal writing is useful to work effectively in the UCI group led by Prof. Cooray. Recent postdocs and students in the group have made use of access to Keck Observatories through UC time and access to Herschel, Spitzer and Hubble data through various collaborations the team is participating. The group is also an active member of CIBER, TIME, and SPHEREx collaborations. The fellow will join one or more of these collaborations and will work on both modeling and data analysis, as necessary.

The initial appointment will be for two years, with a third year contingent on successful performance and availability of funds. Salary will be determined based on experience. The position includes a separate research and travel fund to be used by the postdoctoral scholar.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent prior to beginning the appointment.

Applicants should send a CV, publication list, statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted via UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at http://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF02683.

For full consideration, applications should be received by 1 February 2015.

The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories covered by the UC nondiscrimination policy.
