Postdoctoral Scholars for the Digital Learning Lab

One to two full-time postdoctoral scholars are needed at the University of California, Irvine to support ongoing research projects in the Digital Learning Lab.

One project, Investigating Virtual Learning Environments, is funded by the National Science Foundation. The five-year project will carry out a series of experimental and quasi-experimental studies comparing online, hybrid, and flipped instruction to traditional instruction in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses at UCI, and will also use educational data mining to explore the learning processes and outcomes in online environments.

One project, Digital Scaffolding for English Language Arts, is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences. The four-year project will investigate the use of Visual-Syntactic Text Formatting (VSTF, also known as Live Ink) to improve the reading, writing, and language development of linguistically diverse middle school students.

Positions will begin in Fall 2015, with the exact start date contingent on funding and the availability of applicants, and will continue for two years with the possibility of renewal. Salary is commensurate with experience, plus health benefits.

Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Education, Educational Technology, Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, STEM, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Literacy, or a related field. Desirable qualifications include excellent written and oral communication; interest and experience in educational technology; interest and experience in STEM in Higher Education and/or literacy in K-12 education; and expertise in research design and methodology.
