Position description

The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) is seeking to fill an Associate Dean position to begin during Fall Quarter 2015. To be eligible, the individual must be an active (i.e. not emeritus) member of the UCI Academic Senate and have already received tenure/security of employment.

This Associate Dean position for the Division Undergraduate Education (DUE) is one of two 50%-time Associate Deans that oversee the current units within DUE and reports to the Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning (VPTL)/Dean of DUE. The VPTL/DUE Dean’s Office also include an Associate Dean overseeing a new unit for teaching and pedagogy, and an Associate Dean for Summer Session. The Associate Deans and Assistant Dean works closely with the VPTL/DUE Dean as its leadership team. Responsibilities include oversight over a subset of DUE programs that involves working closely with the VPTL/Dean, Assistant Dean, Faculty Directors and Program Managers to lead the campus in academic transition and enhancement programs for undergraduate students of all majors. This includes weekly meetings as a leadership group, and biweekly group meetings with all staff directors/managers of DUE. Each 50% Associate Dean will have oversight of approximately 5 units within DUE. This will include regular meetings with the staff Program Managers to oversee the daily operations of the unit, working closely with the Faculty Directors and/or Faculty Advisory Boards associated with its program, and helping to formulate the strategic vision of the unit. The Associate Dean will serve as the initial reporting contact to handle any issues that arise within the unit, and will also serve as an advocate for the unit to the VPTL/DUE Dean. Depending on the group of units overseen by the Associate Dean, other duties will include oversight of classes and potentially some involvement in fundraising.
