Position description

The School of Social Sciences is seeking an Academic Coordinator to manage and administer the Global Connect outreach programs. This position plays a variety of roles including educational facilitator, coach, observer, and administrator and will serve as a catalyst for maintaining and advancing UC Irvine’s School of Social Science’s original global studies educational initiative.

The academic coordinator position is a one year renewable term appointment. Performance in this position is evaluated annually; merit evaluations are held every two years. Our intention is to continue the appointment based on positive performance reviews indefinitely. This position is a fiscal-year appointment with benefits, including medical insurance, sick and vacation leave.

Program:
The academic coordinator will oversee and monitor the Global Connect program at five site schools in the Orange County area, including Newport Beach, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Santa Ana. He or she will supervise undergraduate interns at site schools and coordinate weekly internship responsibilities. The academic coordinator will also plan and run the weekly training and preparation sessions and monitor weekly participation and the quality of academic mentoring efforts with assigned site supervisors. He or she will also serve as Curriculum Development Advisor by leading and guiding a team of undergraduate students in developing new lessons in the form of PowerPoint presentations and workshops. Additionally, he or she will plan quarterly site supervisor retreats for team building purposes. He or she will recruit and coordinate the participation of UCI faculty and graduate students to present topical lectures at the site schools.

This will be implemented by planning and coordinating sponsored events, including UC Irvine campus visits from partnering site schools, year-end competitions and annual symposium, and award banquets.

The academic coordinator will maintain established curriculum and outreach materials to disseminate to the campus, local and national community. He or she will develop and assist in the production of flyers and quarterly newsletters to update the community about Global Connect outreach program and attend community and campus events to represent and promote the program.

He or she will serve as the main contact for educators interested in adopting Global Connect’s curriculum in the classroom.
