Position description

A postdoctoral position is available in the Neuroscience program at UCI, in the laboratory of Dr Tallie Z. Baram. Our research program is focused on network, cellular and molecular mechanisms of brain programming by early-life experience including stress. Projects are centered on transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms ‘programming’ stress-sensitive neurons. The results will enhance our understanding of the basis of resilience and vulnerability to cognitive and emotional illnesses.

This NIH funded project involves characterization of novel transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that mediate enduring gene expression changes in specific neuronal populations. The project benefits from the availability of transgenic reporter-mice for the target cell populations. Approaches are multi-disciplinary, employing visualized and controllable neuronal populations, genomic methods including development of single-cell RNA seq, in vivo gene transfer and potent and naturalistic stress / experience models. Both target-gene based and large-scale approaches are employed.

The laboratory is located on the UCI campus, a rich Molecular and Neuroscience research environment. Core facilities for the methods involved are in place.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, and high motivation. Experience in Molecular Biology is required, and experience in bioinformatics and Neuroscience is desirable.
