The Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS) within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Non-Senate Adjunct Professor Series.

The position is in the area of integration of satellite precipitation observations and using mathematical models for hydro-climate applications for water resources and natural hazard management and planning. The candidate will be responsible for (1) the development and improvement of statistical models and database systems for satellite precipitation data products being developed by CHRS at UC Irvine, (2) development and implementation of state-of-the-art modeling systems for global flood warnings using CHRS’s real-time satellite precipitation observations. The successful candidate should have a strong background in data mining and merging techniques, geographic information system (GIS), database and website development, extreme precipitation analysis, mathematical models, horologic-hydraulic modeling. The computer programming skills in Matlab, Python, FORTRAN and C languages are essential for this position.

The candidate will be responsible for teaching a maximum of one course per year in the areas of hydrology, GIS and statistical methods and applications to watershed hydrology. Ability to write and prepare reports, research papers, and grant proposals is an important responsibility of the candidate. The prospective scholar will work with Distinguished Professor Soroosh Sorooshian and his research colleagues at CHRS http://www.chrs.web.uci.edu .

In addition to the qualifications, the position requires a Ph.D. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences or other related quantitative fields, with experience teaching in the area of civil and environmental engineering. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching and research programs of the department.

This is a non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and availability of adequate funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
