The Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) within the Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for an Assistant Professional Researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

This position is in the area of modeling and analysis of stationary and mobile energy systems at different scales for applications in planning the sustainable energy infrastructure development and co-optimizing the energy-water system interactions. The candidate will be responsible for (1) the development and use of electric grid, transportation, and renewable energy resource system modeling tools and (2) conducting self-directed studies to provide insight into the interactions of operational and life-cycle aspects of these systems in the context of climate, water, and energy. The successful candidate should have a strong background in energy system modeling at small (i.e. microgrid) and large (i.e. utility) scale systems, dynamic modeling, thermodynamics, and a strong understanding of energy system perturbation. Computer programming skills in MATLAB and Simulink are critical for this position and familiarity with the implementation of optimization techniques is strongly preferred.

In addition to the qualifications stated above, the position requires a Ph.D. degree in an engineering field relevant to energy systems and their impacts on the environment such as Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related fields.

This is a non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
