Position description

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for the full-time position in the Specialist series to join the ESCAPE Program. ESCAPE is a video based science and arts education professional development program, which provides sustainable media blending arts, entertainment and education addressing Earth, Physical, and Life Science in grades 3-5 through video-based online learning systems and other distribution channels in documentary, television and cinematic styles.

The ESCAPE Program seeks an individual with the training and skill set required to effectively produce videos through assisting coordination of the production crew from preproduction, through production and postproduction phases, including workflow and training. Under the direction of the ESCAPE PI and Executive Director, the incumbent will facilitate the execution of single and multi-camera video shoots in the field, serving as Assistant Director or Unit Director, as well as leading the training and coordination of the production crew. The Assistant Director for Media Production will also carry out various aspects of Research under supervision of the PI, Researcher, and the Ph.D. students who are working on the ESCAPE project. This research role will not require prior experience with research, and it primarily involves implementation or capture of straight-forward procedures that are efficient for this person to carry out.

Requirements include: Advanced degree and or substantial experience in professional level video media production is necessary, while additional training or experience in relevant academic field of science, arts or education is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and demonstrated facilitation and/or management skills are most desirable. The ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and to communicate and work with both faculty and students in an academic environment is essential.

Duration of position is dependent upon performance (annual appointments, with potential for renewal), and salary will be commensurate with experience. Applications submitted by July 22, 2016 will be given full consideration, although applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
