Position description

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS), University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position beginning June 1, 2017.

The fellowship emphasizes research training in drought monitoring and prediction. The prospective scholar will contribute to a project that aims to significantly improve drought prediction in California by combining statistical models and dynamical simulations.

This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Earth System Science, or a closely related field, and expertise in data processing, and computer programing. The candidate should demonstrate strong quantitative skills, solid background in statistical hydrology/climatology, as well as good written and oral communication skills. Prior research experience in drought assessment, statistical drought prediction, Bayesian statistics, and climate extremes would be an advantage. The candidate will be responsible for writing reports, research papers, and grant proposals.

Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and availability of adequate funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The prospective scholar will work with Professor Amir AghaKouchak (http://amir.eng.uci.edu/).
