Department of Pharmacology

Position: Specialists

Openings are anticipated throughout the year in the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, at the University of California, Irvine for non-tenured, academic term appointments in the Specialist series (Junior Specialist, Assistant Specialist, Associate Specialist and/or full Specialist). These research positions are under the sponsorship of the following faculty members:

•Olivier Civelli - Discovery of novel neurotransmitters and search for their functions: from the molecular biology of orphan receptors to their use in behavioral assays; search in traditional medicines for new compounds active in brain responses

•Frederick J. Ehlert – Analysis of drug-receptor interactions, muscarinic receptors, receptor function and signaling

•Kelvin W. Gee – Discovery and preclinical development of novel allosteric modulators of ligand-gated ion channels

•Naoto Hoshi – Physiological role and regulation of the M-channel, molecular biology, electrophysiology and live cell FRET imaging

•Frances M. Leslie – Effects of drugs of abuse on developing brain

•Qun-Yong Zhou – Novel G-protein coupled receptors, physiology and pharmacology of prokineticins and prokineticin receptors; circadian rhythms, angiogenesis, energy metabolism and ischemia.

Requirements include: BS, MS, MD, PhD, or MD/PhD and training in one or more of the areas above. Laboratory experience is a must and a publication history is desirable.

Salaries are competitive and commensurate with experience; the annual salary range for Specialist is: $18.26/hr - $19.47/hr (Junior); $48,204 - $50,244 (Assistant); $54,744- $65,904 (Associate) and $70,764 - $148,380 (Full Specialist).
