Applications are invited for up to two Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment positions (LPSOE). The appointment will be effective July 1, 2018, or later. An excellent record of teaching and outreach activities and the Ph.D. degree are required. The LPSOE is a full-time faculty position designed for individuals who wish to focus their careers on teaching, professional and educational activities, and University and public service. The Lecturer with Security of Employment series requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and externally recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy. LPSOEs are members of the University of California Academic Senate and have all the usual benefits of Senate membership, such as eligibility for UCI’s attractive faculty housing programs, medical and retirement benefits. Within eight years (or less), LPSOEs are evaluated for promotion to Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE), which has the permanence of a tenured position.
Specific duties include the development and implementation of new courses and curricula at the undergraduate level and leadership roles in undergraduate activities and advising, in community outreach activities and in improving instructional resources. It is expected that the Lecturer PSOE will be involved in the submission of grants, attend relevant professional meetings, review programs, submit journal articles, and serve as chair in symposia at professional meetings.
