The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders has an opportunity for an Associate Project Scientist position in the laboratory of Aileen Anderson, PhD. The Anderson lab uses multidisciplinary approaches to investigate spinal cord injury and therapeutic strategies for spinal cord injury, focusing on neuro-immune communication, neural stem cell transplantation, and the application of biomaterial bridges to foster regeneration. A major area of focus for this position will be the application of genetic tools to track regeneration of descending motor pathways into biomaterial bridges, testing the reconstitution of neuronal circuitry. A second area of focus will be advanced microscopy and imaging techniques, including confocal, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), and in vivo imaging. The successful candidate will be immediately responsible for designing and performing in vivo spinal cord injury and bridge implantation experiments, conducting statistical analyses, and preparing manuscripts.
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Neuroscience or a closely related field and several years of productive postdoctoral experience. We are especially interested in applicants with proficiency and published expertise in the following research areas:
• spinal cord injury surgeries, post-operative care, and behavioral testing
• biomaterial bridge implantation
• breeding and maintenance of transgenic mice
• confocal, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), and in vivo imaging expertise
Applicants must have a strong publication record, advanced writing skills, and experience with grant writing. Candidates must be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and to manage scientific projects within a complex organization; therefore, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are essential. This position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate.
Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae which should include a record of research experience and the names of three references before 8/17/2017 to:
