The University of California, Irvine’s Stem Cell Research Center has an opportunity for a postdoctoral position within the laboratory of Brian Cummings to work on projects related to traumatic brain injury, neural stem cells, and neuroinflammation. This position requires a Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: neuroscience, immunology, or stem cell biology. A major focus of this position will be to start with GMP-compliant human embryonic stem cells, generate aliquots of CD133 sorted neural stem cells, and transplant hNSCs into the brains of immunedeficient rats with and without TBI. Animals will be assessed via a battery of functional assays (MWM, NPR, FST, EPM) followed by histological analysis of cell survival, migration and fate. Prior experience in stem cell culture, 2D and 3D cell culture, neuroinflammation, small animal surgery, and behavioral assessment is important. Candidates should have a record of completed graduate research that can be directly applied to the fields of interest listed above. The successful candidate must have a strong publication record, excellent analytic and record keeping skills and also have a broad range of general skills, including the ability to maintain effective interactions and collaborations with other members of the lab and Center.
The position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate and is for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal.
