Position: Lecturer (non-senate)
The Department of Population Health & Disease Prevention, Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences at the University of California-Irvine is currently accepting applications for temporary Unit 18 Lecturers (Non-Senate Faculty) for the 2017-2018 academic year to teach courses in Graduate and Undergraduate programs. Professional expertise and/or previous experience teaching at the university level are required. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Generally, lecturers are offered appointments for one academic quarter at a time and at varying percentages of time, depending on the number and nature of courses assigned. Most courses are scheduled during the day within regular workweeks.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D., Dr.P.H., M.D., or equivalent degree, and will be expected to teach core courses in the baccalaureate programs, including (but not limited to) Principles of Public Health (Public Health 1) Case Studies in Public Health Practice (Public Health 2), AIDS Fundamentals (Public Health 80), Introduction to Epidemiology (Public Health 101), and Public Health Practicum (Public Health195W). Opportunities may arise for lecturers to teach graduate-level courses, particularly for those with professional public health training and experience.
Candidates may be expected to teach upper division courses required to fulfill curricula specifications for the Public Health Minor, the Certificate in Global Health, and initiatives in workforce development. Ability to supervise students in the Honors Research will be considered. Candidates should possess excellent pedagogical and organizational skills. Those with expertise in teaching critical thinking (including but not limited to statistics and study design) and writing about public health issues for various audiences are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with the undergraduate public health practicum program; supervise students in directed and independent study; mentor honors research students; and participate in departmental service activities.
