The Department of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a position in the Professor of Teaching series.
The department is highly interdisciplinary with faculty backgrounds in anthropology, computer science, design, education, health informatics, humanities, media arts, organizational studies, and psychology. This, in no small measure, contributes to our strong international reputation as an innovative site for research and education in information technology and its applications. We seek an excellent colleague who will thrive in and add to this environment. The successful applicant will join a welcoming and supportive community of three teaching-oriented faculty in the department and nearly a dozen overall in the school.
The search is comprehensive and we encourage applicants from a broad range of backgrounds to apply. The department offers four different B.S. degrees: Informatics, Software Engineering, Computer Game Science, and Business Information Management, as well as five graduate programs: Ph.D. and M.S. in Informatics, Ph.D. and M.S. in Software Engineering, and a Master of Human-Computer Interaction and Design. We work closely with our teaching-oriented faculty to schedule courses that play to their strengths, though candidates should feel comfortable teaching a range of courses, including introductory programming, software engineering, human-computer interaction, and information retrieval. While the emphasis is on teaching (potentially at any level), this position requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy.

The position is for appointment July 1, 2018 and is approved at any rank in the series: Assistant Professor of Teaching, Associate Professor of Teaching , or (full) Professor of Teaching. Regardless of level, the position holds full Academic Senate membership and, above the Assistant level, provides security of employment.
Applicants must hold an M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant area or an equivalent combination of degree and achievement appropriate to the rank. Applicants also must convey a clear and compelling vision for teaching. Salary and other compensation are competitive with the nation’s finest public universities.
