Position description

The Department of Art seeks an artist with a strong record of producing and exhibiting sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art, who possesses a deep knowledge of both historical precedent and the contemporary expanded field, challenging the limits of existing conventions while embracing both unorthodox and traditional methods of production. We seek a colleague with a conceptually-driven art practice and an expanded approach to sculpture which might include, but is not limited to, interdisciplinary research, unconventional constructions, performance, installation, evolving materials and technologies, material culture investigations, or public practice. In addition, the new faculty member should possess the versatility to teach interdisciplinary graduate critique and seminar courses, participate in the mentorship of graduate students, and share in departmental administrative duties such as program planning and committee participation.

This is a growing department of 20 full-time faculty. A heterogeneous group of artists and scholars, the department values diversity, rigor, inquiry, and experimentation. The department’s research and instruction address art in a multitude of cultural contexts from galleries and museums to cultural arenas beyond the conventional art world. Areas of interest in the department include, but are not limited to, the legacies of modern and post-modern art discourses, studio and extended genres, gender and queer theory, politics of race, media and new technologies, museum and curatorial studies, social and public practice.
