Position description

The UC Irvine Health Family Health Centers are seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) who is a mission-driven, board-certified primary care physician (preferably family medicine) with training or experience in a federally qualified health center (FQHC) setting, background in community or public health, and/or management who will understand graduate medical education matters and academic health center affairs. A track record of demonstrated accomplishment in a community-based, culturally diverse, and mission-driven health care delivery setting is essential. This position will have a faculty title in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.

This CMO will be responsible for the clinical quality, safety, access and satisfactory experience of the patients, the Center and the liaison between administration and the clinicians. The new CMO will be able to forge his or her legacy in an organization poised for expansion and recognition, working closely with talented and committed staff.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) of Santa Ana and Anaheim, concomitant reporting to the Chair for the Department of Family Medicine, and a member of the UC Irvine Medical Center’s executive leadership team, the CMO is accountable for the quality and efficiency of patient care in the community health center medical home, and the development of vertical and horizontal networks of care in global bundled payment systems or accountable care organizations. The CMO will collaborate with the Executive Director, the Medical Directors of Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology, the practice managers, and the behavioral health team to ensure integration of patient care across the centers. In addition, the CMO will work closely with the FQHC Medical Directors for smooth integration of clinical and teaching roles. S/he will have patient care and precepting responsibilities (50%), sufficient to maintain his or her clinical credibility and a working understanding of FQHC clinical operations. All services are delivered in a manner consistent with the FQHC mission ensuring clinical and professional integrity.

Established as the first FQHCs in Orange County, CA, UCI FHCs are urban FQHCs dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all residents in Orange County, in Santa Ana and Anaheim areas by providing access to affordable, high quality, and respectful primary health care as well as behavioral and social services, regardless of patients’ ability to pay. FHC is a nationally-acclaimed teaching facility for the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, and Family Medicine Residency Program. The FQHCs are fully accredited by the Joint Commission.
