The Department of African American Studies at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a part-time Non Senate Faculty position with primary responsibility in teaching courses in African American Studies for academic year 2017-18. Base salary per course is $6,512.38. The service dates are for Spring Quarter 2018 (04/2/18 to 06/15/18).
We are looking for applicants who can teach one or both of the following courses:
AFAM 40C. African American Studies III.
An undergraduate course required for the major in African American Studies. This course introduces theories of racial blackness in the modern world, with an emphasis on developments in the British colonies and U.S. It traces the emergence of Blackness as a term of collective identity, social organization, and political mobilization.
AFAM 113. African American Cinema and Media.
This course explores the diversity of Black creative production and the historical, social, and economic forces that shaped its emergence.
Ph.D. in African American Studies is required. Expertise in the study of African diaspora, and substantial experience teaching undergraduates is preferred.
