Position description

The Department of Dance, Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for a part-time lecturer in Dance Science.

The successful candidate will teach a large, introductory level, general education lecture course on scientific concepts of health to dance majors and non-majors. The candidate is expected to have knowledge of scientific foundations of health, and be able to emphasize those aspects of health that pertain to success in college and a lifetime of wellness. The course should include principles of cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal, flexibility, and nutritional fitness. The instructor is expected to offer a variety of learning experiences for applying science to life situations.

The course may be offered for one or more quarters (10 weeks each) starting Spring 2018. Appointments may be made at varying percentages of time.

Minimum qualifications: A Masters or Ph.D. in kinesiology, exercise science, health sciences or related field. University teaching experience required.

Full time annual rate of $53,402.00. The appointment will be part-time for one or more quarters in the 2017-2018 academic year, with a the possibility to be rehired during the 2018-19 academic year. Appointments are contingent upon the department's needs and available funding.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Department of Dance at the University of California, Irvine enrolls 150 undergraduate dance majors and 20 graduate students in B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. degrees in Dance. The department, with 15 full-time and several part-time faculty, has been recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding dance programs. UCI alumni have danced with professional dance companies, in film and television, on Broadway, in national tours, and are employed as university dance faculty nationwide and internationally. The department’s facilities include six dance studios, a motion capture studio, and a Dancer Wellness/ Pilates Suite. Students perform in three theatres (including an Experimental Media Performance Lab) and participate in collaborative telematic projects.
