Position description

The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, invites applications for a full-time position. The academic appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Line (tenured) series, which confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate. The position is part of a "Cluster Hire" in Developmental Neuropathology involving four faculty recruitments. The cluster goal is to collaboratively employ traditional and systems approaches to more deeply understand the developing human brain. For this position, the department seeks a PhD-level neurobiologist with an outstanding and established extramurally-funded research program in Down Syndrome. The successful recruit will have the expertise and skills to lead multidisciplinary research efforts that leverage the Down syndrome cohort and biorepository of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) and Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurologic Disorders (MIND), as well as the systems biology expertise of the Center for Complex Biological Systems (CCBS). As a member of cluster, the recruit will also have access to other existing resources and strengths of UCI Health and its campus partners, including graduate training programs in the neurosciences, biomedical sciences, and systems biology.
As Vice Chair for Research, the successful recruit will also have the interpersonal and administrative skills to effectively coordinate research and research-related educational activities, including directorship of the Experimental Pathology PhD program. Other departmental teaching and mentoring activities may involve medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and expectations.
