Position description

Humanities Core Program invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator/Lecturer in the Humanities Core Program. This position can be full-time, comprised of a 59% appointment as Academic Coordinator and 41% teaching appointment as Lecturer; see next paragraph for Lecturer position description and requirements. The initial one-year appointment begins in the 2018-2019 academic year on July 01, 2018 and ends on June 30, 2019. The position is renewable. The Academic Coordinator reports to the Director of Humanities Core, and the administrative duties of the position include but are not limited to working collaboratively with the Administrative staff to manage the operational and communicative functions of the Program; to develop, implement, and assess curricula; and to train, supervise, and evaluate the Program’s Lecturers and its graduate student teachers. This position attends to the Program’s capstone lower-division course, Humanities Core Writing and Humanities Core Lecture. The Academic Coordinator is also expected to engage in professional development and programmatic activities that pertain to the administration and teaching of first-year Humanities Core lectures. The Annual salary as Academic Coordinator will be commensurate with experience within the range $54,744-$75,792.

Simultaneously, the Academic Coordinator is expected to hold a Lecturer position, and should be prepared to teach the Program’s main courses: Humanities Core Lecture 1A, 1B, 1C and Humanities Core Writing 1AS, 1BS, 1CS. The annual salary as Lecturer will be commensurate with experience within the range $53,402-$ 67,287. NOTE: Recruitment for the Lecturer position is separate from the Academic Coordinator position in this advertisement, and any applicant for the Academic Coordinator position must apply separately for the Lecturer position if they have taught less than 18 quarters in UC Irvine’s Humanities Core Program. Qualifications: Ph.D. We welcome applicants from all disciplines and expect teaching experience in Humanities Core, experience in writing program or writing center administration, familiarity with current trends in writing pedagogies and rhetorical studies, and facility with multi-modal and technology-driven composition instruction.
