Position description

The UCI Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications to fill a faculty position at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek a creative and collegial early-career scholar with a strong disciplinary background whose expertise would complement existing faculty in the Department and who demonstrates great potential for future disciplinary and interdisciplinary success in research and education. Candidates with background in one of two broad areas are of particular interest: (1) hydrologic systems analysis, including work on coupled human-natural systems, and (2) process-based hydrologic modeling. Candidates can review existing faculty expertise using the following link: http://engineering.uci.edu/dept/cee/faculty

UCI offers an exceptional environment for a successful career in hydrologic sciences and engineering. Outside of CEE, UCI is home to complementary faculty in fields of natural, social and information sciences and the collaborative campus environment poses many opportunities for interdisciplinary research. Additionally, Southern California is a mosaic of cities and open spaces whose history and future are inextricably tied to water, and whose experiences with water are paralleled by coastal metropolitan areas around the world facing population growth, development pressure, demands for ecosystem protection and water scarcity. The UCI campus also offers a unique housing environment for faculty, with well over a thousand homes within walking distance from campus, the best public schools in California are found in the City of Irvine, and world famous beaches and open space preserves are easily accessible.

Applicants are expected to have a doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute their leadership and innovative thinking toward excellent programs and projects within the department and the university. To be considered at the Associate Professor level, applicants should hold an appointment (or be under review for appointment) at this level at a peer institution.

Applications should include a cover letter, a description of research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, a statement describing commitment to diversity, and the names and contact information of at least four references. References will not be contacted until later stages of the search.

Applications received by September 1, 2018 will be given full consideration but the search will remain open until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted electronically at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF04640 .
