Position description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work in the area of pollution treatment using emerging technologies or advances in conventional treatment technologies. The target pollutants for this project are per- and polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and pharmaceuticals. We are interested in real-world applications of emerging water/wastewater treatment and environmental remediation techniques such as nanotechnology, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), membranes, etc. Improving the performance of conventional water/wastewater treatment techniques (e.g., using emerging technologies) is also of interest. We seek a candidate who brings a strong educational background in laboratory and field work focused on water/wastewater treatment with a high potential and drive to develop and demonstrate research leadership (e.g., identifying research questions, leading research tasks, leading authorship of research papers) and make new research contributions to the broad field of water sustainability. Experience in a number of the following areas is particularly desirable: material synthesis and characterization, chromatography with mass spectrometry, water and wastewater treatment, pollution chemistry, environmental chemistry.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in civil/environmental engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science or a related field from an accredited university and a record of relevant research leadership in the form of first-authored research papers.

The postdoctoral scholar will work with Professor Adeyemi Adeleye (http://engineering.uci.edu/users/adeyemi-adeleye) and his research group. Initial appointment will be a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and funding availability. *Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
