Postdoctoral Scholar Position

The DSM Research Group at UCI aims to address several issues in the application of mobile, pervasive and IoT systems and technologies, especially in mission critical disaster response, public safety and community resilience related scenarios.

We anticipate that one full-time Post-doctoral Scholar position in the field of IoT data exchange will become available soon and are looking for a capable candidate to join our team. The researcher will work on enabling the dynamic composition of IoT applications using highly heterogeneous sensors, actuators and IoT devices (i.e., Things) found in community spaces. This composition requires the study of IoT messaging and data exchange protocols, their semantics, as well as the automated synthesis and placement of protocol mediators to support interoperability and extensibility. The data exchange architecture will be applied in a range of community scale use cases ranging from mission critical public safety (smart firefighting) to smartcity applications (e.g. pollution management) to improve citizen safety and quality of life. Besides functional protocol semantics of the constituent Things, non-functional semantics related to, e.g., fault-tolerance, scalability and QoS, need to be understood, modeled and mapped. A successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science and demonstrated expertise, at the highest level, in the area of distributed, pervasive/mobile computing with the following qualifications:

Ph.D. in Computer Science from a top tier institutions (US or international)
Have publications in top-tier middleware related conferences.
Experienced in designing large scale software architectures and middleware systems/protocols especially in the context of data exchange and IoT.
Possess experience with QoS, performance analysis and formal verification of distributed systems.
Experience working in smartcity application settings is desirable
Have excellent communication skills.

Salary will be at range between $50,000 - $60,000 (salary commensurate with experience) when calculated on an annual basis at 100% time. Anticipated start date will be February 1, 2019 for an initial appointment for one year or more depending on funding.
