Postdoctoral Scholar Positions – Schoenung Group
Position description
Two postdoctoral scholar positions are available in the field of synthesis and characterization of advanced structural materials in Professor Julie Schoenung’s laboratory in UCI’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research on investigating structure-property relationships in advanced, novel, structural materials. Experimental synthesis and processing methods will include but not be limited to the application of techniques such as ball milling, spark plasma sintering, spray atomization and additive manufacturing. Characterization techniques will include but not be limited to in-situ electron microscopy and interpretation of defect structures and deformation mechanisms. Applicants should be recent Ph.D. graduates with backgrounds in materials science and engineering, or related fields (degree date of 2017 or later). The candidate must be self-motivated and have extensive hands-on experience in materials synthesis and processing, and characterization techniques including XRD, SEM, TEM, and related data analysis. The position will also entail mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; writing research proposals and progress reports; interacting with funding agencies and research collaborators; and preparation, submission and publication of peer reviewed journal papers.
Interested candidates should send a cover letter detailing their research interests, a CV, and contact information for at least three references to our online RECRUIT system at:
