Position description
The University of California, Irvine's Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is seeking a highly-motivated individual whose research addresses the molecular neuropathology of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The professional researcher series at UCI is designed for scientists who engage in independent and creative high quality research. Applicants should therefore have a proven track record of consistent publications in this area, independent funding and experience mentoring students and postdocs. Preference will be given to applicants whose research integrates cutting-edge neuroscientific techniques using human and animal tissue.
The candidate will lead projects evaluating novel immune-based targets for AD in the Laboratory of Dr. Frank LaFerla. Projects will focus on aspects of innate and adaptive immune systems, learning and memory, synaptic function and plasticity, lipid metabolism, proteomic and metabolomics discovery, and endocytic dysfunction. Therefore, the ideal candidate should have a strong background in neurobiology, pharmacology, immunology and molecular biology. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supervision of laboratory members, experimental design, data analyses, and manuscript preparation. The candidate will also be expected to apply for both independent and collaborative funding to support his/her research focus.
Requirements:
Applicants should hold a Ph.D., 10+ years of scientific experience in Alzheimer’s disease research, and demonstrated record of innovative research with strong publications, excellent training, and clear scientific contributions. Candidates must be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and to manage scientific projects within a complex organization; therefore, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are essential. This position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate.
