Position description

The Program in Corporate Welfare Studies seeks to hire a Junior Specialist, working as a research economist. The position is most suitable for a recent graduate with a B.A. or M.A. degree in economics. The researcher would conduct some of his or her own research in the area of corporate welfare, assist faculty and Ph.D. students in their research, participate in organizing the summer research program, and work on making the results of academic research known and comprehensible to a wider audience.

The area of research is broadly defined as the causes and consequences of governmental policies that affect particular firms. Examples of related research supported by the Program include how regulations on airline pilot hours affect airline behavior, how the bailouts of banks deemed too large to fail affect different firms, and the effects of tax incentives on firms’ location decisions. The initial position is for one year.

The annual pay is $50,000, plus benefits.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess a B.A. in Economics by the start of the appointment. Background in Industrial Organization, Political Economics, and Econometrics. Knowledge of U.S. political institutions, and U.S. data. Ability to work in a team.
