Assistant Professor in Residence
Position description
The University of California, Irvine, Department of Pediatrics is recruiting a translational research scholar for a faculty position in the area of the developmental origins of health and disease. The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher in intergenerational effects of biobehavioral processes in pregnancy, with a specific emphasis on child obesity and metabolic dysfunction. The candidate should be able to synthesize concepts from maternal-fetal medicine, pediatrics, behavioral medicine, developmental cell biology, and endocrinology and metabolism, and integrate them vertically from a cell to whole-body level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in adipocyte biology and in-vivo measurement of body composition, particularly whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques in pediatric populations. This is an academic senate appointment expected to be at the Assistant Professor level. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. UC Irvine, located in Orange County, with a population of more than three million, has a long and distinguished tradition of excellence in translational medical science.
Requirements – Successful candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral-level degree, an established record of research accomplishment with scholarly activity and publications commensurate with experience, and demonstrated success with extramural funding, particularly NIH awards. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop an independent research program, secure extramural funding, and participate in interdisciplinary research and training.
