Position description

The Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic leader with strong credentials in clinical medicine and basic, translational or clinical research to serve as the Endocrinology Division Chief in the Department of Medicine.

The successful candidate will embody academic stature, accomplished clinical skills, and leadership and management skills to build and expand all aspects of Endocrinology Medicine at UCI, while advancing the research and educational activities of the training program. The Division Chief will be a well-rounded physician who will nurture innovation and advance technological developments and treatment methods that will ultimately improve the health of our patients. This is a tenure-track, or Clinical of Medicine senate faculty position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level. Academic credentials including NIH or other federal grants and prior record of high impact publications are preferred.

The Division of Endocrinology at UC Irvine’s School of Medicine is committed to providing exceptional care for patients with a broad range of complex endocrine conditions. Our faculty members are experts in the diagnosis and management of diabetes, thyroid disease, pituitary dysfunction, osteoporosis, adrenal disease, and other conditions. We also manage difficult-to-treat disorders of lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides), obesity, male infertility, and calcium. Our division also has extensive experience with pediatric endocrinology and offers diagnostic services and treatment plans for young patients with glandular disorders, Turner's syndrome, ambiguous genitalia, and precocious or delayed puberty. These board-certifed physicians are also involved in clinical trials and research that seek to advance new treatment strategies and targeted therapies for patients.

The Endocrinology Division Chief will be expected to deliver patient care in an academic setting, teach medical students, residents, fellows, engage in an independent and extramurally – funded clinical research program, and provide service to the University. Additionally, the Division Chief will continue to build the clinical activities and philanthropic efforts of the program and bring a strong research component to the division. Candidates with current funding are preferred, but candidates who apply for funding once hired will be considered.

Requirements include an M.D. or M.D. / Ph.D. degree(s); board certification or eligibility in field of Endocronology, and a valid California Medical License. A strong record of research and funding, including NIH and/or other federal awards and a prior record of high impact publications are preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver patient care in an academic setting, teach medical students, residents, and fellows, engage in an independent and extramurally –funded clinical research program, and provide service to the University. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience.
