Postdoctoral Researcher
Position description
Job Description
The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) has an opportunity for a postdoctoral position within the laboratory of Dr. Malcolm A. Leissring investigating the etiology of Alzheimer disease. This position is supported by an NIH grant awarded to Dr. Leissring and Dr. Frank LaFerla, and is focused on elucidating which time frames (early vs. mid- vs. late life) and also which pools of amyloid ß-protein (i.e., intracellular vs. extracellular) are most critical for triggering sporadic forms of AD, which emerge only in the context of the agin brain. The position will involve the development and characterization of state-of-the-art mouse models that permit selective, reversible, neuron-specific control of extra- vs. intracellular amyloid ß-protein levels.
Requirements
This position requires a Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: Neuroscience, Physiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology. Candidates should have a record of completed graduate research that can be directly applied to the field of interest described above. Prior experience with molecular biology, ELISA, western blotting, qPCR, immunohistochemical techniques and mice handling is highly desirable. The ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent laboratory skills, independence and resourcefulness. Candidates must possess strong communication and organizational skills. The position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate and is for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal.
