Position description
The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) has an opportunity for a an Assistant Project Scientist position within the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Nation to work on projects related to vascular contributions to cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This position requires a PhD degree in the psychological sciences. A major focus of this position will be to lead brain structural and functional MRI studies focused on assessing vascular brain lesions, cerebral perfusion, cerebrovascular reactivity and other brain integrity measures in community-dwelling older adults. Additional expertise in neuropsychological assessment, psychometric theory, cognitive science, neurobehavioral function and statistical analysis are also required, specifically as pertains to aging and age-related dementias.
Requirements:
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science or a closely related field and a two-to-three years of productive postdoctoral experience. We are especially interested in applicants with proficiency and published expertise in the following research areas:
Vascular factors in cognitive decline and dementia
Vascular brain MRI measures
Neuropsychiatric symptoms in older adults
Applicants must have a strong publication record, advanced writing skills, and experience with grant writing. Candidates must be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and to manage scientific projects within a complex organization; therefore, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are essential. This position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate.
