Position description

The University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology, invites applications for a full-time tenure track/tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate rank. We are seeking a faculty researcher to join our dynamic research program focused on advancing technology and developing methods for biomedical imaging of skin and skin disease. The individual's research focus should be developing new/ improving existing technologies for imaging skin with the goal of providing insight into the pathogenesis of skin disease.

The Department seeks a candidate with a strong background in biomedical optics and, specifically, development of new skin imaging technologies for the detection of skin cancer, monitoring of inflammatory disease and/or monitoring of the efficacy of skin disease therapies. This position will have up to 90% time allotted to research. Candidates must have current federal funding. Research space will be available on the UC Irvine campus, and the individual will need to be highly collaborative, as they will be expected to establish strong collaborations with clinicians and scientists in different disciplines. The successful recruit will also participate in teaching and mentoring activities of the department, which may involve medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.

Preferred qualifications include a track record of peer-reviewed publications, track record of extramural grant funding and a research focus on advanced imaging methods.

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UC Irvine conducts institutional reference checks for candidates finalists to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer of appointment into Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full). The institutional reference checks involve contacting the administration of the applicant’s previous institution(s) to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University’s Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UC Irvine requires all candidates of Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” into AP RECRUIT as part of their application. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
