Position overview

Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Neurology ranging from $220,000.00 - $289,940.00. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

Neurohospitalist

The University of California (UC), Irvine, Department of Neurology is recruiting two BC/BE faculty members to develop a dedicated Neurohospitalist Program at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, California. The successful candidate will have outstanding training in inpatient care of complex neurological disorders, with fellowship training in Neurohospitalist program, Stroke or Neurocritical Care preferred.

Successful candidates will work closely with our Comprehensive Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center, and a multidisciplinary team of subspecialists including neurologists, neuro-intensivists, neuro-interventionalists, cerebrovascular surgeons, and neuro-radiologists. The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full professor rank.

Requirements:

Applications are being sought from candidates who possess M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degrees in the field of Neurology or equivalent who are eligible for licensure by the California Medical Board. The candidate will participate in patient care. There will be additional expectations for teaching students and residents, engagement in research, and performance of university and public service. Positions are dependent upon funding. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on availability of support.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series:The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criteria for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series:The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited institution with appropriate training and experience, postgraduate clinical training, and eligibility for one of the medical specialty boards. Candidate must demonstrate teaching ability or have a clear potential as a clinical teacher.
