Position description

Daryl Preece, Ph.D./The Preece lab at the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic has an open postdoctoral position.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or an M.D, or the foreign equivalent, in physics, applied physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or other relevant technical or engineering discipline.

The Opportunity: This postdoctoral research position is open for candidates interested in pioneering the next generation of bioengineering technologies using multi-photon imaging and nanophotonics. We will consider applicants with a background and interests in photonics, optics, electronics, spectroscopy, imaging, lasers, fiber optics, signal and image processing, and/or microscopy. Compensation will be competitive and based on experience.

Preferred Qualifications: We are especially interested in candidates with experience in biophotonics and tissue optics. A solid background in any of the aforementioned areas, as demonstrated through publications and/or submitted patent applications, is essential. We value both independent work and collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.
Candidates with a broad skill set encompassing computer programming/simulation and experimental optics in biomedical applications are preferred. Proficiency in MATLAB or LabVIEW programming is desirable.

Additional Qualifications: We are seeking candidates who are interested in translational optical imaging and in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary setting. Practical experience in assembling instrumentation is desirable. Effective written and oral communication skills are a must, as is a willingness to contribute to project management.

Responsibilities include data collection and analysis in preclinical and clinical settings and instrument design, fabrication, validation, and application.

All appointments are initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
