Position description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Experimental Particle Physics with an expected start date of 1 July 2024. We welcome applications from candidates across all areas of experimental particle physics and astroparticle physics. Preference will be given to scholars who have demonstrated excellence, originality, and productivity in research and show promise in teaching and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.

Current areas of research include ATLAS, FASER, IceCube, ARIANNA, DUNE, FermiLAT, NOvA, FLArE, LiquidO, Super-Kamiokande and Hyper-Kamiokande. The UCI Physics and Astronomy Department hosts a firmware and electronic workshop with highly qualified engineers in firmware and board design. The School of Physical Sciences provides access to a machine shop and large-scale computing in addition to a UCI high-performance computing facility.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in physics and is expected to establish a dynamic research program and participate effectively in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, training, and experience.
