Position description

The University of California, Irvine, School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice invites applications for a full-time tenure/track-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate rank. The Department seeks a candidate with a background in translational research focusing on early phase clinical trials and precision therapeutics preferably within the fields of Oncology, Immunology, Pharmacogenomics, or Neurology.

The School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of the five units under the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences. The college is part of the integrated UC Irvine Health system that also encompasses UCI’s clinics and Orange County’s only academic medical center.

The individual will build upon drug discovery efforts within the School by facilitating first in human clinical trials. Applicants should be strongly collaborative, bridging basic and clinical research initiatives. One such potential collaboration opportunity would be with the recently established Early Phase Clinical Trials Program in the School of Medicine. Additional collaborative opportunities available on campus include the UC Irvine Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, the Cancer Research Institute, the Institute for Immunology, the Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, the Center for Virus Research, the Center for Complex Biological Systems, the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics, the Microbiome Initiative, and the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping. Applicants should have experience in teaching, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and show promise for academic advancement within the UC system.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Lead or develop a rigorous early phase clinical trials and precision therapeutics research program.
  2. Provide expertise to help build out the newly formed Bioanalysis Facility within the School.
  3. Collaborate closely with the newly formed Early Phase Clinical Trials Unit within the School of Medicine or similar research center on campus.
  4. Provide teaching to PharmD and/or PhD students.
  5. Seek and secure grants and funding to support translational research within the School.
  6. Promote the integration of basic science research findings into clinical practice.

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants should have completed postgraduate research training (e.g. PhD and/or fellowship).

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of an additional clinical degree and/or training is preferred (e.g. PharmD or MD).
