Salary range: Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Trauma, Burn & Critical Care Surgery ranging from $397,027 to $496,728. The posted UC salary scales set the base pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Professor and Professor of Teaching (LSOE) Series — Specialized Health Science Scales — Health Sciences Compensation Plan. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Division of Trauma, Burns, Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is recruiting a Burn Medical Director to join the Division.

The division manages the only ABA verified Burn Center in Orange County, which has over 3.2 million people. The Burn center has ~300 burn admissions and performs over 550 burn operations annually. Nearly 25% of these are pediatric admissions. Also, our burn team evaluates over 400 new outpatient referrals each year. This current hire will add an additional surgeon to our existing team that includes 3 fellowship trained Burn Surgeons. We also have a Burn Program Manager, separate Burn Program Coordinator, as well as dedicated pharmacist, social worker, psychologist, hydro/wound care team and child life specialist amongst other resources. The program has a mature survivor program including several annual events, peer support, support groups, and partnerships with burn foundations throughout our region.

In addition, we are the only ACS-verified Adult Level 1 Trauma Center in the county as well as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, with over 5400 trauma activations annually. The faculty also manages the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service, and a busy 24 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The division also oversees an outstanding ACGME-accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship (3 fellows/year) who may rotate on the burn service. The Burn Medical Director may also rotate on trauma, SICU and/or EGS depending upon their interest and experience.

Faculty rank and series will be determined by the training, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate. The candidate will be appointed in the Professor of Clinical-X Series or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Level.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Clinical-X Series and Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Additional experience in obtaining extramural funding with a track record of mentoring and collaborating with others in research will be viewed favorably.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criteria for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates should have an MD or equivalent or MD/ PhD with American Board of Surgery certification/ eligibility in Surgery with added qualification in surgical critical care. Eligible to obtain a California DEA license and a California Medical License. The incumbent will participate in delivering patient care in an academic clinical setting, teach residents and medical students in clinical programs, and perform University and public service.
