Position description

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine, anticipates openings for Junior, Assistant, Associate, and Full Specialists.

Requirements – Applications are being sought from B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree candidates with strong laboratory research backgrounds and publication records. Interdisciplinary skills and approaches are required. This is an ongoing recruitment and positions are dependent upon extramural funding. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on availability of support. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Junior Specialist applicants should possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.
Assistant Specialist applicants should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
Associate Specialist applicants should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
Full Specialist applicants should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
