Position description

The UCI Department of Informatics invites applications for an open rank lecturer in games.

We seek applicants with strong administrative skills who also possess expertise in game design, game programming, and/or game development. Top applicants will possess a proven track record of industry achievement as well as a strong record of teaching these skills to undergraduate students. Applicants must possess either a MFA or PhD in design, computer science, media studies, and related fields or equivalent professional experience of at least ten years.

Working in Informatics

Our ideal applicant will take a proactive approach to understanding the forthcoming shifts in the game industry. Given the forthcoming prominence of machine learning technologies in our everyday lives, it is not enough to simply train students to understand code in the decades ahead. They must instead learn how to navigate the choppy waters of rapidly adapting industries in a changing world. We also hope that this applicant will bring our department’s strengths around ethical computing into a larger conversation about the future of the game industry.

Responsibilities

The position is for a lecturer who will be asked to teach up to a full time course load. This position will be expected to take an active role in leading the professional development of our undergraduate students. The position requires that its candidates maintain and share their ties with the industry with our students more broadly. In addition to these teaching responsibilities, candidates must participate in departmental service activities and maintain an active research and/or creative presence in the field.
