Position description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine is currently seeking a Junior Specialist to focus on system and application development for global real-time and historical satellite precipitation estimation at the Center for Hydrometeorology & Remote Sensing (CHRS). CHRS is dedicated to enhancing global capacity for forecasting and mitigating hydrologic disasters. We achieve this by leveraging the technological resources of space and weather agencies, which remain largely untapped, to develop applications that support hydrologists and water resource managers worldwide. Our goal is to ensure equitable access to pertinent information in this critical field.

The Junior Specialist will collaborate with the research team at CHRS, concentrating on the development of machine learning and visualization tools, databases, and web and mobile applications. Responsibilities will encompass planning, designing, compiling, developing, modifying, debugging, deploying, and evaluating intricate software code in C, C#, Java, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, Matlab, Python, MySQL, MongoDB, Android Studio, and Xcode. The primary objective is to generate global precipitation products from various satellites and their applications for users worldwide at the Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS).

This position is offered at a 100% time appointment for one year with the potential to renew annually. Salaries are based on University of California salary scales, which are dependent on academic rank and step, and commensurate with experience.
