Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Neurology ranging from $220,000.00 - $289,940.00. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the Professorial Series (Adjunct, Clinical X, HS Clinical, In Residence, Ladder Rank) and Professor of Teaching Series – Health Sciences Compensation Plan. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

UC Irvine Memory Disorders Program

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) has an outstanding full-time faculty opportunity for a board eligible/certified physician to join its Memory Disorders Program. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to the care of patients with cognitive disorders and will participate in specialty and interdisciplinary clinics at UCI Health.

Candidates should be highly motivated and collaborative, and will combine outstanding clinical care with an academic commitment to research and the training of residents, medical students and post-doctoral fellows.

The UCI Neurology Memory Disorders Program offers comprehensive, compassionate, world-class care for the spectrum of adult cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer disease, frontotemporal dementia/ALS, Lewy Body Dementia, Huntington’s disease, adult Down Syndrome and traumatic brain injury. Patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of professionals including neurologists, neuropsychologists (Neuropsychology Division Chief: Mark Mapstone PhD), and allied health professionals to provide patients with leading-edge neurological services.
The program has strong interdisciplinary relationships with departments including Psychiatry and Geriatric Medicine. It is home to one of the first NIH-funded Alzheimer Disease Research Centers (ADRC) in the country and the 90+ Study, led by Dr Claudia Kawas (Memory Disorders: Division Chief), a longitudinal multidisciplinary investigation of the oldest-old. UCI also participates as a site in a large number of national initiatives including the Alzheimer Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). UCI Applied Innovations, UCI Alpha Stem Cell Clinic, and the Center for Clinical Research provides robust infrastructure for clinical trials and create a wealth of opportunities for the successful candidate to conduct and participate in research with outstanding mentorship and support.

The Department of Neurology and the Memory Disorders Program strives to provide a rich educational environment, including one of the only UCNS-certification programs for Geriatric Neurology in the country. We also provide undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing medical education, and neurology grand rounds programs to educate the next generation of physicians.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

An M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O., or equivalent degree with active board certification or eligibility in Neurology with fellowship training in either Memory Disorders, Geriatric Neurology, Dementia, and Aging.

• Eligibility to obtain an active and unrestricted medical practice license to practice in the State of California.

• Qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology and hold medical staff privileges with the UCI Medical Center.

• The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full professor rank.

• Rank and academic track will be commensurate with candidate experience and credentials.
