Position description

The Department of Art History at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for part-time Non-Senate Faculty positions with primary responsibilities in teaching upper division courses in Art History for academic year 2024-2025. Base salary per course is $8,282.38. The service dates for Fall Quarter 2024 : 09/23/24 - 12/13/24. Pay Periods: 07/01/24 – 10/31/24. The service dates for Winter Quarter 2025 : 01/02/25 - 03/21/25. Pay Periods: 11/01/24 – 02/28/25. The service dates for Spring Quarter 2025: 03/26/25 to 06/13/25. Pay Periods: 03/01/25 – 06/30/25.

The department is searching for applicants to teach Art Hist 198 and one additional course from the list below in the Fall 2024 quarter:

ART HIS 198. Advanced Seminar: Topics in Art History
Discussion and report-oriented seminar with emphasis on reading, writing, and thinking about problems in art history. Subject matter of this topics varies course should focus on the interconnected histories of abstract artwork and scientific experimentation in Los Angeles/Southern California over the second half of the twentieth century.

ART HIS 110. Studies in Medieval Art. 4 Units.
Specialized topics in Medieval art and architecture in Europe, the Mediterranean area, and the Near East between the fourth and fifteenth centuries. Examples: the Art of the Migration Period, Medieval City.

ART HIS 111B. Byzantine Art: 650-1450. 4 Units.
Studies in the development of the art and architecture of the Byzantine Empire between ca. 650 and 1450.

ART HIS 114. Studies in Western Medieval Art. 4 Units.
Selected topics on the development of art and architecture in Western Europe between ca. 700 and 1400. Examples: Romanesque painting, Gothic architecture.

The department is searching for applicants to teach one course in the Winter 2025 quarter and one course in the Spring 2025 quarter from the list of courses below:

ART HIS 110. Studies in Medieval Art. 4 Units.

Requirements: Applicants must have a PhD degree in Art History or a related field completed by June 30, 2024.
