Position description

Medical Physics/Medical Imaging
Position: Specialist- Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist

The Department of Radiological Sciences, University of California, Irvine, anticipates openings for non-senate, academic term appointments as Assistant, Associate and Full Specialist.

The position involves research investigation in the areas of cardiovascular and dual energy CT. Research in this laboratory focuses on applications of medical x-ray imaging for cardiovascular disease and cancer diagnosis. Applicants with a broad background in medical physics, physics, or electrical engineering, who hold a Masters, or PhD, or MD, degree is required:

Assistant Specialist: Appointees to the Assistant rank should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree), or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
Associate Specialist: Appointees to the Associate rank should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Associate Specialists are normally expected to have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
Specialist: Appointees to the Full rank should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Specialists at full rank are normally expected to have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field, professional recognition in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.

Those who possess a strong motivation to pursue an academic medical physics career are encouraged to apply. Strong background in physics, mathematics and software or hardware development skills are essential for this research. Training or working experience in CT physics, radiological physics and detector physics is desirable. Also the ability to communicate both verbally and in written format is important.
