Position description

We are currently accepting applications for a fellowship position in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine-Tibor Rubin Long Beach VA Medical Center for the academic year 2026-2027.

Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowships at the University of California Irvine are at the level of Health Sciences Clinical Instructor, and this one position is located at Long Beach Veterans Administration. This position will have the benefits administered through the University of California, Irvine.

Our mission, within the Department, and in a broader context as a University of California School of Medicine campus, is to provide an excellent educational experience so as to produce highly trained fellows who will go on to become leaders in their subfields. We believe that we provide an optimal combination of study volume, procedure volume, experience with sequencing/protocoling, academic time, and optional research time, to produce very knowledgeable, balanced radiologists, with cutting edge knowledge of their subspecialties.

This one-year fellowship has the fellow working with fellowship trained musculoskeletal radiologists, all of whom are known for teaching excellence. The program director is Andrew Chang, MD, who is dedicated to the education and success of the fellows. The program provides experience in image-guided interventional orthopaedic procedures, including arthrography, joint aspiration, lumbar puncture, soft tissue and bone biopsy techniques. Advanced training is provided in interpretation of musculoskeletal radiography, CT and MRI. The opportunity exists for the MSK fellow to learn neuro and body MRI from fellowship trained experts in these subspecialties as well.

Qualifications include having an MD or DO degree and being American Board of Radiology certified or eligible as well as being currently in or completed a four year Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. Finalists will be asked to provide evidence of compliance with US Selective Service program registration requirements. Successful applicants will be Health Sciences Clinical Instructors at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. The fellow will participate in the teaching of UC Irvine residents and medical students, actively participate in interdisciplinary conferences, and have an opportunity to take an active part in the ongoing research projects and publications of the section.
