Position description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, is recruiting for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to support research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Martínez. The Martínez lab is an interdisciplinary group focused on studying a new class of small proteins dubbed microproteins. We currently have open projects investigating microproteins in the areas of cancer, aging, high-throughput protein interaction screens, and RNA metabolism. Routine methods employed in the lab include ribosome profiling, RNA-seq, bottom-up proteomics, organoid models, microscopy, cell-based assays, bioinformatic analyses, and more. Further details about our research can be found here.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate, works well in teams, is a self-starter, can independently troubleshoot issues, and has an exemplary track record of academic performance. Competitive candidates should have experience in one or more of the following areas: building next generation sequencing libraries, protein biochemistry, chemical biology, bioinformatic analyses, functional genomics screens, phage display, and cell-based assays. We have several projects related to microprotein discovery and characterization to choose from. Candidates are also welcome, and encouraged, to propose their own area of investigation related to microproteins.

Applications will be considered until position is filled. This position is available to start immediately. Initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of reappointment. This position is eligible for benefits.
