However, for this position the total negotiated salary uses AAMC salary benchmarks for Clinical Pathology ranging from $186,648–369,100. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The University of California Irvine School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position to serve as the Associate Director of the Clinical Chemistry Division. The academic appointment may be at any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on clinical experience and extent of research effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, medical and allied health students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Clinical X faculty are expected to conduct more substantial research. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.

Applicants must have significant experience and/or fellowship training in clinical chemistry, hold an MD, DO, MD/PhD, or PhD degree. Applicants with an MD or DO degree should be board certified in Clinical Pathology and preferably also in Chemical Pathology whereas those with a PhD degree should have ABCC board certification or eligibility. Physician applicants must be qualified for a medical license in the State of California. Applicants with a PhD must be eligible for a State of California Clinical Chemist license or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience directing a clinical chemistry laboratory. Qualified candidates from accredited fellowships without experience will also be considered.

We are seeking an outstanding clinical chemist with strong communication and managerial skills, an interest in clinical service, a commitment to education, and a proven record in clinical and/or translational research. Experience and expertise in mass spectroscopy and toxicology are highly desired. The candidate will work with department leaders, laboratory administrators, and technical personnel to ensure that we provide world-class diagnostic services to our patients. Job responsibilities will include working with the Director of Chemistry to provide oversight of the Clinical Chemistry Division at our 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus; and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County. Candidates with an MD or DO degree will share on-call duties for all Clinical Pathology services except Transfusion Medicine.
